Scrappy Journey: Personal Scrapbook Style Evolution

Hi scrapbooking friends!  Today I am kicking off a new series on my channel.  I wanted to explore my scrappy journey and how I have evolved as a scrapbooker over the years.  I thought I would share this exploration with all of you!

I wanted to start with the most obvious of evolutions, my personal style.  I'm sure everyone can see this type of change in their own work.  I first dabbled in scrapbooking in 2004 or 2005.  I made an album for my husband about our life together.  I had no idea where to start.  One of my friends at the time brought me to our local Archivers to get some supplies.  I was totally overwhelmed.  I ended up leaving with very little.

I Moved!!

Hello everyone! I have decided to make a change with my blog. Originally, I had chosen to go with Wordpress.com. It had an app that allowed me to post from my phone and seemed convenient. I tried it out for about 6 months. While the ability to post from my phone was great, I felt that I was missing out on things that I had on a previous blog on Blogger.

I'm not sure if it is my lack of ability or if it is a flaw with Wordpress.com. I was not able to customize my blog as much as I wanted. It was hard to make changes on the things I could customize. It was hard to get followers. The formatting for my posts was frustrating.  I had remembered Blogger as having a more user friendly platform. So, I finally chose to make the move to Blogger.

{Snow Time} Layout (1/16/17)

Hello everyone!  I'm here with a layout I created using the Creative Scrappers January sketch  (302).  I was really inspired to have fun with this layout. Here is the sketch:

Scraplift layouts (1/10/17)

Hello! I'm finally starting to get some of my mojo back after the holidays and starting to scrap more. Christmas really takes it out of me. I have completed a few layouts and am working on editing the videos for them to go up on YouTube.
Here are 2 layouts I completed for Paper Issues December scraplift Sunday.

Layout share (12/7/16)

Hello! I have 3 layouts to share today. I made these while tackling the mountain of laundry in my house. The first was created using the Paper Issues mood board from the Facebook group.  Here is the layout:

{A Visit With Santa} (12/1/16)

Hello!  I am here with an exciting post!  I was chosen as guest designer for the December 1st sketch from Stuck?! Sketches and it is time to reveal my creation!  Here is the sketch:

{Daisie's Scraps} (11/30/16)

Hello!  I'm back with a layout for the Week 3 sketch from Lets Get Sketchy.  Here is the sketch:
Here is my layout:
I did stray a little from the sketch.  I tried using thinner strips like in the sketch but I felt that chunkier ones worked better.  I also added a horizontal strip to allow for a resting place for my photo.  That is one of the things I enjoy about sketches.  It allows you to have a starting point that allows you to make adjustments to make it your own.

Here is a list of products:
  • background: Colorbök
  • turquoise hearts: Fancy Pants Millie & June
  • geometric pattern and pink hearts: Crate Paper Hello Love
  • text print: MAMBI
  • turquoise felt border: Freckled Fawn
  • flair badge: Fancy Pants
  • teal picture layer: American Crafts
  • vellum: Recollections

And here is my layout:

{Amazing Adventure} (11/26/17)

Hello!  Back again with a layout created for the Lets Get Sketchy Week 2 sketch.  I wanted to try something a little different with this layout.  So I followed the diagonal line of the sketch but changed it a little to suit me.  Here is the sketch:
Now I tried a couple of different options for the grid designs with the shapes.  But I really wanted to do something a bit different.  Here is my layout:
Now this is a very simple layout.  I chose to sew waves in both blue and white in the top left and bottom right corners.  I layered some vellum and Amy Tangerine papers behind the photo.  Then used minimal embellishments.  I put a border on the whole thing to tie in the colors and frame the layout.  Overall, I really like this layout.

Here is a list of products:
  • background: Colorbök
  • blue/green layer: Amy Tangerine Better Together
  • polka dot vellum: Recollections
  • sun and wave chipboard, life is beautiful sticker: Bella Blvd

{Hello Weekend} (11/20/16)

Hello again!  I am back with a layout for the Creative Scrappers 300th sketch!  Congratulations goes out to all of the talent (especially Kristine Davidson)  that brings us these sketches and the wonderful inspiration layouts!  Here is the sketch:
cs-300-my-creative-scrapbookNow, who doesn't love a great grid design?  There were so many things that I wanted to do with this sketch.  Where I ended up was a little bit of a surprise to me.  Check it out:
img_3557img_3555img_3556I chose to do a fall layout.  The photo is my children sitting with their pumpkins as we waited for the wagon to come pick us up from the pumpkin patch.  I love the photo and wanted to highlight it.  I also fell in love with the background paper.  It is from a Recollections pack from Michaels.  I think it is gorgeous!  So those two elements were what I ended up basing my layout on.  I chose to do a smaller grid with different sized squares to allow for more of the background to show.  My only regret is that I wish I would have layered the squares a little more.  But I really love how this turned out.
Here is a list of products I used:
  • Background: Recollections Boho
  • all of the cards: We R Memory Keepers Love Notes
  • vellum: The Paper Studio
  • Wood veneer stars, people, and hello: Studio Calico
  • Weekend wood veneer: Scraptastic
  • felt border: Freckled Fawn
  • letters and stars foam: Dear Lizzy Cordial Thickers
Thanks for visiting!  I will be back with another layout soon!

{Family Hay Ride} (11/19/16)

Hello again!  I'm back with another layout created using a sketch...shocking I know.  I am really enjoying using sketches.  I find that it saves me a little time when I sit down to scrap.  And since I am usually doing 12 other things at the same time, it also saves my brain a little.  Anyway, this sketch it from Sketch N Scrap #116.  Here is the sketch:
sketch-n-scrap-116I thought this is a cute sketch and great layout design.  But I had scrappers block when I went to actually create my page.  I had a picture in my head of what I wanted to do and not one single idea worked how I wanted it to.  I started to make a video but changed the layout so many times that I just stopped trying to record.  But finally I came up with something and I really like how it turned out.  Here is my layout:
The photo is of my family on a hay ride at the pumpkin patch.  We were having a great time together.  I tried to pull out some of the colors from the photo but also wanted it to pop.  I didn't have any other photos that I wanted to add to this page so I chose to use cut aparts for the 2 little photos on the sketch.  I also chose to eliminate the bottom cluster because I felt that it would be too busy.  Overall I'm really happy how this turned out!
Here is a list of products I used:
  • Background: Colorbök
  • teal heart paper: Fancy Pants Millie & June
  • wood grain and grey diagonal stripe: Crate Paper Craft Market
  • orange and red layers: Crate Paper Wonder

Hello! Today I have a layout I created using the Let's Get Sketchy Week 1 sketch. I thought this was an adorable sketch with all of the butterflies. And it just so happens that I recently purchased my first butterfly punch, so I felt it was fate :) Here is the sketch:
Here is the layout I created:
I followed the sketch closely. I wanted to do something soft and girlie. I chose a Snapchat filter photo of me and my youngest. I thought it went great with the butterflies. I kept with my theme this month and used Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party 6x6 paper pad.

{I Love You To The Moon & Back} (11/14/16)

Hello!  This layout was created using the Stuck?! Sketches November 1st sketch.  I really love this sketch.  I stuck pretty close to it including mixed media (dun,dun,d-u-u-u-n-n-n).  Here is the sketch:
I am always impressed with the sketches from Stuck?! Sketches.  They are detailed but not too much.  I love that they are in black and white.  And they are easy to use as a jumping off point for you to use what you have have to create something amazing.  Here is my layout:
I LOVE this layout!!  Love it!  Can't get enough of looking at it :)  I chose to do some pictures of my son.  He is almost 14 and reaching that age where he is not into having his picture taken.  The one photo he is pouting because I want to take his picture.  The second he gives me a great big grin.  I chose the moon paper to start with and pulled various 6x6 papers to go with it.  I even like my smooshing of the ink as my attempt at mixed media.

Here is a list of products I used:
  • Background: Colorbök
  • cut aparts and star paper: Amy Tangerine Better Together
  • Moon paper: Studio Calico Story Time
  • yellow/orange chevron: Amy Tangerine Plus One
  • chevrons: Pink Fresh Studio Wood Drops
  • green mist: Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Frozen Lake
  • gold mist: Heidi Swapp Color Shine Gold
  • ink: Hero Arts Soft Granite
  • roller date stamp: Pebbles
  • thread: Singer

Exciting News! (11/3/16)

Hello!  Last month I played along with many sketch challenges.  I enjoy sketches and have found a few sites that I really enjoy participating on.  I have been featured as a weekly choice a couple of times but this month I was chosen as the featured scrapbooker on 2 sites!  It is shocking to read through your blog feed and see your layout!
My First Day of School layout was selected from the October 1st sketches over at Stuck?! Sketches.  I get to be the guest designer for the December 1st sketch!  I have never been a guest designer.  I am super excited for the opportunity!
Then I discovered that I am the featured scrapbooker for October over at Sketch N Scrap!  I was speechless!  The layout that was selected is My Happiness.  I am just blown away!
Interestingly, both of these layouts were ones that I created using my stash from a particular designer.  I love both the layouts that I created.  I couldn't have done it without the great inspiration from the talented sketch designers at each of these sites!    I can't wait to play along this month!  You should head over and check out the sketches for some fantastic inspiration!
Thanks for visiting!  See you again soon!

{My Darling Girl} (11/3/16)

Hello!  I have a layout that I created using the October sketch on The Studio Challenges blog.  Here is the sketch:
For this layout I chose to use a photo of my youngest daughter from a few years ago.  She looks so sweet and adorable I couldn't help but use this photo.  Here is the layout:
Sorry the photo of the layout isn't the best.  I took it at night because I had forgotten to take a photo. So the lighting is terrible.  Anyway, I stuck really close to the sketch for this one.  I did go back and add the date and journalling later.  I really think this turned out cute!
Video will be posted shortly!  Having technical difficulties (too many kids on the internet).

Here is a list of products I used:
