Hello everyone!  I'm here with a layout I created using the Creative Scrappers January sketch  (302).  I was really inspired to have fun with this layout. Here is the sketch:

Hello again!  I am back with a layout for the Creative Scrappers 300th sketch!  Congratulations goes out to all of the talent (especially Kristine Davidson)  that brings us these sketches and the wonderful inspiration layouts!  Here is the sketch:

Now, who doesn't love a great grid design?  There were so many things that I wanted to do with this sketch.  Where I ended up was a little bit of a surprise to me.  Check it out:

I chose to do a fall layout.  The photo is my children sitting with their pumpkins as we waited for the wagon to come pick us up from the pumpkin patch.  I love the photo and wanted to highlight it.  I also fell in love with the background paper.  It is from a Recollections pack from Michaels.  I think it is gorgeous!  So those two elements were what I ended up basing my layout on.  I chose to do a smaller grid with different sized squares to allow for more of the background to show.  My only regret is that I wish I would have layered the squares a little more.  But I really love how this turned out.

Hello!  I'm back with a layout using sketch #299 from Creative Scrappers.  I really like this sketch.  It is very versatile.  It has a lot of layers and uses multiple photos.  Here is the sketch:I chose to use a 4x6(ish) and a 3x4(ish) photo instead of using 4 photos.  I chose photos of my daughters vocal group performing at a local coffee house.  One of her best friends is in the group with her so I have a close up of them.  I did block out the faces of the other kids with hearts in the photos because I don't have permission to use them.  Here is my layout:

I did move the title down to the bottom.  I used some old stash for this.  The diagonal stripe paper is from Echo Park Little Girl collection from 2010.  The stars are Tim Holtz grunge board that I got many years ago at Tuesday Morning.  I really love how this turned out.  I feel like this layout is how I describe my style.  It's hard for me to put in words but the color combination and the layout of the papers are really my style.

Hello! I created a layout for the challenge from Christy on Christys Beautiful Life YouTube channel for the giveaway.  Christy and Rachel have a series called Get Sketchy with Christy and Rachel that has been going for 1 year now.  Congratulations ladies!  I enjoy this series because I think it's interesting to see how everyone approaches a sketch differently.  For their 1 year anniversary they are doing a giveaway.  To qualify for the giveaway, you need to create a layout using one of the sketches that they used over the last year (click for  Christy's video for giveaway).  I chose to use the second sketch (click for Christy's video) they used.  It is from Creative Scrappers sketch #262.  Here is the sketch:

Now I had planned to go somewhere entirely different with this layout.  I had planned to use my kids 3 school photos from last year and to create a companion page for my last layout.  However, it did not work.  I created the chevron background.  This took me absolutely forever to figure out.  I totally over thought it and just made it a huge deal.  When I finally figured it out I wanted to slap myself.  Anyway, I created the background using multiple papers.  Then I brought the photos in and HATED it.  So then I chose a different photo to use.  I really didn't know how to go about embellishing this page so I just started putting things on the page until I liked what I saw.  Here is the layout I created:

I think this is a fun layout.  The colors are a little more fall than I would have wanted for this photo.  But I think it turned out.  It's hard to tell but I traced the larger chevron pieces onto the background with a Spectrum Noir 017 yellow colored pencil.  I think it added more chevrons without it adding busyness to the layout.

Hello!  Today I spent most of the day struggling with the latest sketch from Creative Scrappers #298.

I wanted to follow the sketch as closely as possible.  It includes circles in the background.  I HATE circles.  I have no idea why.  Something about them.  I just can't put my finger on it.  I always feel that something is off when I use circles.  The proportion or something just seems wrong.  So I decided to use this sketch and face my struggles head on.  You know what happened?  I had scrappy fits.  I kept leaving and coming back.  I started 3-4 different layouts. I was just totally frustrated.  But I kept going.  I persevered.  I conquered the circle.  Well, at least I feel that I did.  I finally figured out a way to represent the circles in the sketch in a way that I really like.  Here is my layout:

Now this is pretty bust for my taste but once I started I couldn't stop.  The picture is of my daughter.  She has been sneaking my phone and taking selfies of herself playing.  I have probably hundreds of selfies of her and her toys.  Most of them are useless because they are blurry or poor quality due to lighting.  But this one was perfect.  I chose to use some of my favorite colors (teal, pink, purple, and gray).  I used white cardstock as the background.  All of the pattern papers are from my scrap bin.  I chose to use my hexagon punch instead of stars.  I love the way this turned out!

There are a couple of things I would change.  I would move the teal layer from the middle box up a little so that it doesn't line up with the back square.  I would use a different color square behind the journalling strips because they seem to blend a little.  I would outline the cut aparts.  But that is all little things that I don't care that much about.

Hello! Today I was working with the Creative Scrappers sketch #297.

This sketch was created by Kristine Davidson with a cut file designed by Ashley Horton,of The Cut Shoppe, in mind. Now I do not own a Silhouette so I am outta luck with the awesome cut files offered by Ashley's shop. Instead I decided to go way deep into my stash to use a paper I have been hoarding FOREVER that would mimic the cut file. Here is the layout I created:

I have to say I LOVE October Afternoon. The vintage design and quality of the papers are what draw me in. But I hate cream based papers. I never know what to do with them. I cannot mix white and cream no matter how hard I try. So I was stumped on how to use this. I tried many background paper before I stumbled upon this one from Fancy Pants. It has a cream base that is close to the October Afternoon cream. I decided to use the vintage feel to help guide my embellishments (and help me use up other vintage feeling papers). If I had to change anything I would not use a black pen for journaling and would pop some of the flowers and the photo up on some foam. Overall, I love this layout! Here is a list of what I used:

I'm going to try to get back to scrapping. My injury makes it difficult but it helps me feel better emotionally so I think I will make it a priority! Until next time!

Hello! Last week I submitted a layout that I completed for Creative Scrappers sketch 296.  The sketch was designed by Kristine Davidson.

It was designed with the Chopsticks Background cut file from Just Nick Studios (free until July 31 with coupon code attached to Sketch 296 blog post) in mind. I do not have a die cutting machine, so I decided to use my scraps and manufacture strips to resemble the cut file. I chose to use grey and yellow color combination. Here is my layout:

Again, I have to apologize for the lighting. If I continue to use my bedroom as my craft area I will have to bring in better light for pictures. 

Anyway, I used Colorbök cardstock as my background. The strips I used came from my scrap box so I’m unsure of the brands of most of them. I used some Maggie Holmes cut aparts, Prima Silentium and Perles flowers, Bella Blvd crochet heart, Doodlebug sequins, and gold Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels. For my title I used Elle’s Studio grey little letters and Thickers-Maple. I used some silver glitter washi and silver glitter enamel dots as well. This layout came together in less than an hour. 

I had a great time working on this layout and using the sketch. I’m excited for the next sketch to come out!
